Even if you don't read this article, just repeat to yourself: "Don't Click. Don't Click." When it comes to computer security, we all get a little concerned. Here are a few tips for ensuring that you are surfing safe!
-
Don't know it? Don't click it. If you see a pop-up window from an alleged "security suite" that you don't know, or if you have a random piece of software explaining that you're infected and to please enter a credit card number... do not click anywhere on the window... ever. "Think twice, click once." If you already fell victim to this kind of attack, we can help.

Anti-virus is not enough. For any Internet-connected windows-based PC, you need more than just one Anti-virus program. There isn't one superior program that detects every infection, 100% of the time. It's a good idea to install 2 or 3 programs that work in concert together, but you have be careful with conflicts. We know how to do it right.
-
"Password" is a horrible password. You need to stop using lower-case, easy-to-guess passwords, people! If a virus gets into your system with administrator rights, you may get a hard-to-remove "root kit." Secure your Wi-Fi with a similar password; everyone knows your phone number makes a good WEP key, dude.
-
Socialize with care. If you’re not careful, Twitter, Facebook, and other social sites can open the door to serious security threats.
-
Update, update, update. An update is the manufacturer's way of patching known vulnerabilities in your old system. So when Windows wants to update, let it.
-
Down with Toolbars! You need only your favorite search engine (Google?) to find things. Do not install the toolbar, the sign-on assistant, the password saver, the weather bar, the game bar, <whew> need I go on? Toolbars make an easy avenue of approach for virus and mal-ware threats. There are a few well designed and secure ad-ons that we recommend.
